Whether you are a
doctor, nurse, medical assistant or otherwise directly employed in the medical field, you may be required to wear medical uniforms on a daily basis. Picking out your wardrobe of uniforms might not be as simple as it sounds, though. Fortunately, when you arm yourself with knowledge regarding both what you want and what you need, you can shop for a workweek’s worth of uniforms with ease and confidence.
First, you should consider what type of medical uniforms your employer requires you to wear. For instance, it might be mandatory that you wear plain, solid colored scrubs. Perhaps you have to wear a lab coat over your outfit as well. On the other hand, specific colors might be used to identify your position, such as green scrubs for interns, dark blue for nurses and white for physicians. Determining such conditions can take away much of the work, making it easier for you to find what you need.
If you are not restricted to any certain color, you are in luck. Medical uniforms are available in virtually any shade imaginable, as well as designs such as animal prints, cartoon characters and prints that display support for your favorite cause. Choose hues that flatter your skin tone and hair color so that you can head to work looking and feeling your best every day. Your patients will appreciate it, too!
Uniforms come in an array of shapes and styles, as well. You can stick with the traditional V-neck tops, matching pants and a simple lab coat or jacket, if that is what you are comfortable wearing. Alternatively, though, you can opt for everything from scrub tops in empire waist or wrap-around designs, cargo-style scrub pants or A-line lab coats. Nothing says you have to be unfashionable to look professional and presentable.
Extra features that you might want to look for in medical uniforms include ample pockets, including those with Velcro, zippers or other closures so that you can carry items without worry of losing them; elastic waistbands or drawstrings in pants for ease of use and comfort; and twill tape or pockets hidden inside of your uniform for your cell phone or other personal effects.
Of course, you will want to consider prices when shopping for new uniforms. This is a highly personal aspect and there is no right or wrong amount. The good news is that scrubs and other medical attire are available in a wide range of prices, so there is something that will fit every budget.
